GeekUp Sheffield April 1st: CakePHP Presentation

GeekUp LogoNext Wednesday (ironically April 1st) I'll be doing a short (30 minute) presentation about the CakePHP framework to the good people at Sheffield GeekUp.

This is the first time I've ever done a 'proper' (ie. one that was planned and prepared) presentation and as you might expect I'm a bit jittery.

The GeekUp crowd are great and I'm not worried about the reception I'll get, I'm more worried I can do the subject the justice it deserves in 30 short minutes.

My plan of attack is a brief introduction stating the pro's/con's of the framework followed by a delve into the code behind a sample application.

I realise a lot of the crowd aren't coders (one of the great things about GeekUp is the scope of experiance of the attendees) so I hope I won't alienate 2/3rds of the audience in the second half. Ian apparently has a plan to stop them getting too bored...

I've built a very basic CakePHP application (a code snippet repository) which hopefully shows off some of the features of CakePHP. I'll be making the source code available for download along with the presentation slides (put together using the Google Docs presentation web application) closer to the event.

Test drive the applicationdownload the source (212KB Zipped), view the presentation and have a tinker.

So, if you're in Sheffield on April the 1st, why not come along to the GeekUp. There's good beer, good conversation with smart people and an good chance you'll see me make a fool of myself...
